MY HISTORY PROJECT

MY GRANDADS BARBER SHOP

About Alfie Mahon

Alfie Mahon is my grandad.

He was born  in Govan, Scotland on May 30, 1953.

He moved back to Ireland when he was 4.

He has four sisters.

He left school when he was 14 years old and opened the shop when he was 18.

This year [2021] my grandad's shop has been fifty years in business.

He learned to be a barber while he was working in "Hammill's" barber shop.

He bought the shop off O'Donnells estate in 1986.

This is my grandad and grandmother:

About my grandad's shop

ALFIE'S BARBER SHOP IS LOCATED ON THOMAS STREET.

THOMAS STREET WAS BUILT IN 1682.

THE STREET HAD A LOT MORE SHOPS AND THE ROAD WAS TWO WAY UP UNTIL 1972.

MY GRANDAD'S SHOP IS THE ONLY SHOP ON THOMAS STREET THAT KEPT ITS ORIGINAL STREET POSITION.

IN 1995 MY GRANDAD DECIDED TO KNOCK DOWN THE WHOLE SHOP APART FROM THE FRONT WALL AND REBUILD IT.

This is my grandad's shop
